OK, here goes. Cranberries - have no idea if this is a sauce or a relish, I call it "Cranberry yummy" and it is delicious over turkey. 2 packages of fresh cranberries 1 cup frozen concentrate orange juice 1 cup splenda Bring orange juice and splenda to a simmer Add cranberries and return to a simmer Reduce heat to med-low Stir (and this is where mom came in handy) for 5-10 minutes or cranberries start to pop and everything starts to thicken. Turn off heat, chill if you aren't going to serve within 3 hours Can be served cold or heated up just very slightly. Turkey is always cold on the plate and the cranberries warm it up just nicely. Of course, the cold cranberry yummy could also be used to make a PBJ. In that case, use crunchy peanut butter and potato bread. That's for an extra special person

Go for it Ams! A little of this, a little of that! Lellani will love it! Oh! And I heard rumors Sni has another recipe to share!!!! Lol Raven, "a little of this and a little of that" is every recipe I've ever seen in my family. My grandmother and great-grandmother made everything by sight, touch and taste. Thankfully, I learned a couple of recipes while I had the opportunity to watch them cook. My grandmother's recipe box, which will be coming my way next so I can make copies, is essentially index cards with lists of ingredients with the occasional measurement and instruction thrown in. I predict a lot of fails in my attempts to recreate them. I was thinking, maybe we someone could move this thread to the chat section. I keep forgetting where it is and I might not be the only person doing that.

So two of my best Xmas recipes come from my grandmothers best friend - Mrs. Hughie - a wee sweet little Scottish lady : both long since passed but Mrs. Hughie always said shortbread had to age - and made hers in October! I got mine made today so it will have a bit of time to age!!! Her other secret to good shortbread was that it had to be kneaded for ages!!!! My hands were sore!

Kooka - so my recipe is a sweet - came from my Gramma Annie a sweet little dumpling who came from the area around Germany - cant remember name of country but it doesn't exist anymore! Kooka: Pastry: this will make 2 crusts 2 cups flour 2eggs - beaten 1/2 cup sugar 2 teaspoons Baking Powder 1/2 cup butter Milk - enough to make sticky Mix flour, BP and butter cutting butter into flour (like pie crust) Add sugar and beaten eggs - then enough milk to just make sticky. Half of dough onto floured board and roll out quite thick - transfer to medium sized pie plate. Repeat. Filling: 2 cups sour cream 1/2 cup sugar 2 eggs (beaten) 1 teaspoon vanilla Mix all together and pour into crusts. Top with pitted canned plums (fresh if available) placed sporadically over custard! You should be able to see custard between plums - this is the traditional topping! However - I did one with sliced fresh apples Sprinkle top with cinnamon and a bit of brown sugar. Bake in a low oven (300-350) for 30 mins or until filling is set.

making it tomorrow! Caramel Corn: 2 cups brown sugar 1 cup butter (not margarine!) 1/2 cup corn syrup 1 tsp salt Put all into a heavy pot and boil for 5 mins. Add 1 tsp. vanilla Make 6 qts of fresh popped popcorn and 4 cups plus almonds or pecans in large bowl. Pour syrup - drizzle - over top and stir (I pour syrup in 4 batches and stir after each pour!) Spread out in two large roasting pans - or on large cookie sheets (this is messier) Bake for 1 hr at 200 degrees stirring every 10 mins. Store in airtight container.

Love the recipes Raven. I keep forgetting about this thread. It sounds like your family might come from the same area that my dad's family came from. Over the course of the past century or so, it's been known as 3 or 4 different countries. When my brother was stationed in Kosovo, he went on leave in Germany and tried to find out how to go about tracing our genealogy over there. He was a bit surprised to find out that he was in the wrong country. Sadly that area has had so many conflicts and such turmoil, I will likely never be able to locate the documents required to trace the family back any further than the general region.
