I know Solsville covered "location switching" in an earlier post, but I want to elaborate on how and why you should do it. The main reason you SHOULD do it is that it will allow you to buy a business that would normally only cost green bucks (because you are over 100 miles from it) for mere coins (which are a lot easier to get). The reason is you will be switching your GPS location to a new area, and your device will "see" you there instead of where you really are.
First off, why even bother?
- much easier to buy businesses in coins instead of bucks
- gives you a far greater selection of businesses to choose from; you can literally buy anything, anywhere, without spending bucks
- allows you to acquire some of the game's most popular properties without ever being near them
So, how do you do it?
Ok...everybody has the ability to manually change their location once. The way to do it is simple:
1. Close out the game
2. Go into settings and turn off location services
3. Open game back up and hit the check-in button on the lower left side of the screen. MT2 will tell you that it is a location-based game and urge you to either turn on your location settings or to manually put in your location. You can pick anywhere in the world! Now you will gain access to that area's businesses. Check it out: you can go under the "explore" tab of your new area (let's say San Francisco), and you will now see businesses in San Francisco, Cupertino, Los Gatos, etc. selling FOR COINS.
However, now businesses in your actual location (let's say New York) will cost bucks. Don't worry! Once you turn location services back on, you'll be seen at your "real" location again.
You only get to do this once as location services going off in the future will prompt the selected location to be triggered.
BUT, you can fool the system. If you want to pick a new secondary location, you have to delete MT2 and reinstall. Don't get scared! Just delete the app...it will tell you all data will be deleted...stand firm, and when it asks if you want to "keep" or "remove" the game center data, hit KEEP. Now reinstall, and rinse and repeat. You get to manually select another new location with the location services off. Best of all, nothing is lost...even the jobs you were doing will still be in progress. Viola!
DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
A few caveats with the delete trick...
1. Don't do this if you are on low battery UNLESS you are plugged in and not at risk of your device shutting down.
2. Don't do this if you are in an area with poor reception.
If you don't hit "keep" or the data fails to sync after you select to delete, you could lose your town.
I can confirm that it is totally effective on an I-phone 4 or 4s and players with I-touches have not had any known problems...at least I haven't heard of any. Previously, I recommended not doing it from an I-Pad as at least one member was unable to restore their town, but since the trick has been confirmed to be safe on I-Pad, go forward with caution.
Hope that helps!

Barracuda, I thought I should just kindly let you know I have a ipad. My Dalaran town is on the iPad and I have had no problems deleting and restarting the application so far. I also know others who uses iPad and play this game, have no problem deleting the app, and reinstalling, as long as they have a full charge or even plugged in. The caveats you have listed is very valid up to a point.. Make sure you are properly charged, or at least "PLUGGED IN" to an outlet. Just wanted to let you know, losing a town and progress can happen to anyone using any i* device, not just users of iPads.
Great information here. Thanks!

Alright, I edited to reflect your advice.
I am now going on record as supporting the trick for I-Pad users.
In addition, I altered the caveats to reflect having your phone plugged in while on low battery.
That should cover it.
For those of you who are worried, A LOT of forum users have successfully used this trick, and there are only a couple of limited circumstances where something terrible like town loss will occur. Follow the steps and cautions outlined here, and you will be fine.

You're good to go, fastrack! Nothing has changed with either the stock exchange trick or the location change trick.

Anyone know if this still works? I have yet to get enough courage to try this -- I'm on an I-Phone 4, and when I see the "all data will be deleted" I chicken out. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I never make it to the keep data screen? Not sure, but scared, but wanna try it!

Yes, it still works...the first time I pulled the trigger, I was terrified. But after that, it gets easier. Just follow my guidelines and caveats. Many before you have tried - almost none have failed. ;D
Server is not great at the moment, so maybe wait until the end of the weekend to try this when everything is loading quickly and Booyah isn't being bombarded with this recent event. The risks are high, but the payoff is priceless!

Thanks for the encouragement and tips! I think I'll wait a day or so like you mentioned, and give it a go!

I am so tempted but absolutely terrified! I'll definitely take your advice to wait until the server is running better... that also lets me be a chicken for a little bit longer! Lol! If anyone tries this for the first time, please post how it went!

If anyone tries this for the first time, please post how it went! The first time I installed this game I didn't like my local business options so I deleted and reinstalled and was pretty mad to find my town intact. I did it again but couldn't get rid of it, then discovered I could change locations so I put myself nearer to the city. It's funny that months later my biggest fear is my town not surviving the reinstall. I always check that my wifi and the game are working properly before I do it. Seems to me people are losing their towns anyway just by loading and connecting when the server is down so there's a certain risk of losing your town anyway. Waiting seems a good idea at the moment though.

Faulkner - you should include your town ID name and # in a signature line so that I can find you! Thanks!!! That's good advice, but be advised that you can find ANY of our members in the MT2 Forum Membership Directory, located on the General Board. I update it daily, so it should be wholly accurate. Just go to the person's user name, and you will find their town name and Booyah ID.

Oh -- I already know that BB (and very much appreciate that)! Its just that it is faster/easier to grab that ID when it is included within the post you're reading! ;D Just being lazy, I guess...

How do you set it up so that you get gold when franchised?
I visited a town the other day and he/she only had one business and you pay gold to franchise it.
