Yeah! It's the forums anniversary today and its been so much fun Happy day everyone ! Happy day to us all!! Yay!! Raven, I just saw the drawing by Parker, and I have to say, I see talent there. The proportions...the use of shading...the angle to get the best light...definite talent!! Any news on your brother?

And it is so good to see such a fine art connoisseur on the forum! lol The important thing is that he feels well, and has an awesome family on his side. I am fast becoming an art expert; I will upload one of Emma's masterpieces one day, but I am not putting a signed copy up in case they are worth $$$ when she finds fame and recognition. So far we are still at the 'hold the crayon and wave your arm back and forth over the page' stage, but I swear one of those scribbles looks like a Sunflower, and I bet that's what Mrs Van Gogh thought when her baby boy started out too!

I was having a real peachy day today. I absolutely nailed a job interview this morning and then had some really great adventures with my wife and the boy, then harassed kiwi. Then I found out my father had had another stroke, this one quite catastrophic. At most he has another few weeks.
My wife and I have been together for about eight years and she has never seen me cry before.
For those of you who don't know (ie. everyone but Sardi, Kiwi and Raven) my parents worked for UNESCO in special education for the deaf and disabled around the Pacific. My father was totally selfless. I remember 20 years ago, he was driving a bus of disabled students when the engine caught fire. He put his body over the burning engine so the students could escape over his back before the bus exploded.
I am proud to be his son. He has been a good man.

Who to be our Super Heroes if not our parents! I really enjoy reading this thread being happy or sad after reading your posts. I see myself in a similar situation as Derek these days. My father was a good man too and raised me to become who I am today. But he "fall in love" with ... Vodka! And now he is an alchoholic He ruined his body ... Me and my brother will fly home this weekend to visit him ... Who knows? Maybe it will be the last time we see him alive Life is not always as we want it to be!

Oh con! I'm glad you've decided to share this to everyone.. it's been worrying you for days now.. Hope you feel better.. If children are a gift to parents then parents are children's blessings from heaven.. To Derek that's so sweet of you to say that to your father! It always take a great man to saY these things to their fathers ... To both of you con and derek your fathers would be so proud hearing you say those things! I'm proud of you both!!!

Derek, it seems you were on the roller coaster ride of emotions yesterday! It sounds like your dad was one in a million - what a great role model for you.
Kon, alcohol is a tough demon to battle. I send my most positive thoughts your way!

Needless to say I had a crappy day. The bad thing about being a teacher is you always have to be upbeat and enthusiastic or your class will suck.
But coming home to my wife and the boy always makes me so happy. I always ride my bike as fast as i can. I tried a new variation on the chase me game tonight and we had so much fun together.
Kon, I am so sorry to hear about your father. As an ex alcoholic (after my divorce), I always remember something the chief says in 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest' that his father wasn't drinking the whiskey, the whiskey was drinking him...

What a nice day today. It is so true how having a kid changes your perspective on life. Today I had to bike 20 k in the wind and rain, got officially rejected for a job in favor of a kid with only a bachelors degree (don't worry, I will fight it, a doctors degree and 20 years experience trumps that).
But we bought the boy rubber boots today and played and splashed together in the back yard. Such fun.

Derek - those are great memories to make with your son. I know my kids love puddles. They started giving the puddles random names and when it rains, they'll say, "Look! Mr. Blue or Mr. Puddle or Ms. Swimmy"...etc came back!! Too funny!

I have to post a pic of the boy playing in our backyard one day, but my only chances on the ipad are early am or late pm. He has a swing, a paddling pool and a treehouse, not to mention a scary grapefruit tree. I miss him so much when I am at work.

See those months of no work had a good side! The bond with the boy will always be stronger because of them!
