Here's an odd thing. I was in someone else's town (naming no names, in case that is a faux pas around here), and saw they had a Karaoke Palace just like the one I have in L'Arc, that went down to 25 pop. The address on theirs is the same as the address on mine, but...here is a cap of theirs : What's up with that pop?! Mine's still at 25! I looked at other businesses we seemed to share, and almost all of them had that same popularity...but a different address from mine. Where I only have Karaoke Palace on Booyah St or whatever it was, and all my other high pop businesses I got from Booyahtopia have their real world addresses, ALL the businesses this person had which they seemed to share with me were on Booyah St. What does it mean?! XD

It's a double rainbow! Not really... That's the highest value (there's a thread on it somewhere around here) a popularity can be before the code rejects it. Somewhere down the road, someone changed the code for the popularity of that business. ... And feel free to share town names on the forum - nothing wrong with that . If they're a member, maybe they can share how they keep it from dropping (never do a check-in!?)... Lol

I was just looking at my stats and noticed a 300 000 jump in popularity. Last time I looked I was in the 400 000's and now I'm at 709 000.
- Quick has jumped to 107078 - Allstar Donuts has jumped to 59082 - Ristorante Romantica has jumped to 55192
And just before the update I picked some new low popularity businesses b/c I wanted businesses with coffee in the name. One of them has jumped over 1100. My Sweet life cafe has jumped by 500.
Update: I hope I'm not in for a mega drop. I've jumped to 854 758. my local businesses haven't changed nor have the booyatopia ones but most of the the business I franchised from other cities have jumped.

My Begins Cafe jumped in popularity, about 30,000 points. Sounds small, but it's almost back where it was when I first franchised it from a neighbor.
Also, I received a gift about an hour ago from a Shackleford. I think that's how it was spelled. Not sure if that is someone from the forum, but if not... they seem to be from MO, because they had 5 or 6 low pop businesses all from MO. Makes me wonder if some of the neighbors in the revamped Social page of neighbors, are random locations.
The only way to verify this is if everyone visits some random neighbors to see if there are any signs of them being from random places... out of state and such.

Good Morning, I hope everyone on the East Coast is recovering well. After reading this thread I had to check my pop even though it is now where near as high as some of yours. However it also jumped a small 10,000 yeah! I am deciding if I should sell some business and buy some more high pop any advice would be wonderful. Thanks Duke

Soooo sick of this popularity monster. My income is minus 3000 in 2 days! What is going on! Popularity can be like a yoyo. It is not guaranteed to remain constant or go up all the time. One theory is that it is booyah adjusting popularity to give players a chance to buy at a lower price. Some drop a lot, some a little. Most times if a business goes down then it goes down for everybody then goes back up after a few days or a few weeks. I notice quick and creperie have taken a bit of a nosedive lately from where they were a month ago. The exception seems to be the businesses with mytown,ca addresses. These businesses are the most likely to be artificially high. They drop for individual players - not for everybody at the same time. I gave up on them because I had 2 of them that dropped from super high to 25 and never regained popularity. I sold them - thank goodness I spent coins on them and had made more than what I had paid for them by the time I sold them. Oh damn, I just visited your town and saw it was your my town,ca starbucks that you just got that has dropped big time. But congrats on your son!! Hopefully the little one will still let you have time to play,

Mods: I wonder if we should put a disclaimer/a proceed with caution notice about the mytown,ca businesses on the top 30 and most popular businesses by city threads. So that players investing in them know that they can sometimes drop without notice.

Sardi while I was wandering these threads I also remembered - Licat continually reminded players not to buy inflated or artificially high priced businesses - for this very reason! Drastic drops in popularity!
Also the one dollar purchase is no longer available through MyTown.ca so shouldn't happen as much - right?

Sardi while I was wandering these threads I also remembered - either Licat or Yarn continually reminding players not to buy inflated or artificially high priced businesses - for this very reason! Drastic drops in popularity! Also the one dollar purchase is no longer available through MyTown.ca so shouldn't happen as much - right? Thanks Raven. Actually the 1 buck franchises from booytopia had real addresses around the world and not my town,ca addresses so although they drop sometimes they don't seem to drop as dramatically as the mytown.ca businesses. ie. Ritz was listed as 150 Picadilly, London Starbucks was listed as 1912 Pike Place, Seattle Sam's Diner 1224 Market St, San Francisco Saks Fith Ave- 611 5th Ave New York Apollo Theatre 252 W 125th St New York I used this method for quite a few of my businesses. And I still have a few of them I am seeing a lot of players with duplicates of the booyatopia businesses though out there on my visits that do have the mytown,ca address. As well as new businesses I've never heard of with mytown,ca addresses. The popularity on them is all over the map.

Well I certainly think players should be careful and be aware!
Proceed with caution buying any extremely high priced OR artificially high priced OR mytown.ca businesses as they can sometimes drop drastically in popularity without notice. This is often called the "popularity monster" on the forum and can affect all businesses.
