I don't understand how high popularity businesses can go down like that, I thought the popularity was not supposed to change. Forever confused.

My Railhead Bar was hit by the Popularity Monster a few weeks ago and took its popularity down from 32,000 to 6800. It never recovered, but when someone from another town looks at my Railhead Bar,they see that it has gone back up in value to 32,000. Any explanation from the other members? Any way I can "goose" the Railhead Bar on my device to go back up? It is a level 9 and I hate to even think to sell and buy a new establishment.

Sol any chance you could update the list on the first post. Preferably with the actual game pop instead of the inflated ones which we can't get with our slow fingers. On a side note, I have had 5 of my original businesses drop from where I had checked in pop of 2500-2600 only to have it drop to 26 over the weekend. Really irritated at that. I raised those baby businesses from an 800 coin purchase last Nov. Stop erasing my hours of tapping.

Several of my businesses had their popularity suddenly decrease. One had a populartity over 200 and now it's under 100. Why did this happen??

i really think there is a direct corelation between the "popularity monster" and check ins. it's happened to me several times that when i check in, it drops popularity. just now i accidentally hit the check in button. i didn't even check in. and it knocked my 2nd most popular business down to least popular. luckily i quickly un installed and re installed so it went back to where it was a few hours earlier.
update - after re installing, i turned my location services back on. check ins are ok now. i checked in a few times and nothing decreased. this game has some strange quirks.

I was just visiting cAndyland and noticed the popularities there are changing right now under my very eyes. Each time I clicked on a business the number would change; mostly they are dropping but Quick keeps on resetting itself after a while.
I came over here to see if there are any posts about similar happenings.
I'm trying to decide which one I will quickly buy with my miserly quantity of bucks, all hard come by, by the generous franchising of my Forbidden City - for which I used to get 50 bucks but now only get 22 bucks, so obviously I have been attacked by the PM myself.
Hence the need to find another affordable high popularity business at a momentary dip that might rebound.
Wish some experts were on here to advise. Unfortunately, from previous posts I gather that most of you are asleep, with the time difference between here (China) and there (wherever you are).
Will hang about a bit before making my choice in case someone is around.

All cAndyland businesses are back on track, popularity = out of my reach.

Hey Rocky - I have found this too! It is the Check Ins that do it, and it appears to be when location services are off. Safest option is to just not use the check ins to avoid the monster!

All cAndyland businesses are back on track, popularity = out of my reach. Hey Chocofan - I'm a New Zealand living in Ireland! I love cAndyland's businesses and am slowly franchising as many of his as I can afford. If you run your console in 3G rather than wireless, and are quick enough you can manage to franchise some of his businesses for the same popularity as he has - it doesn't appear to work for all of them, but some of the ones around the 40k mark work without issue. Just click on the handshake and tap purchase quickly and you will get them! I have done it with Railroad bar and Dominos Pizza so far - feel free to check out my town to see what I mean. I think the main thing is, don't use the check in's. See the post above for more info on that.

The popularity monster hit my Apple Store San Francisco today. It went from 33k+ to 140. Seriously. Just 140. That's what I get for thinking the PM was just a fairy tale... LOL.
:: Update :: I just realized that ALL of my businesses dropped to 140 popularity. Has that ever happened to you guys?

A day or two ago I noticed his total popularity across ALL businesses had dropped to 550. Maybe he experienced the same thing.

It's actually kinda strange. When my husband visits my town he still sees all the old popularities, but i can only see the new, lower pops. I guess the system just takes time to update. I check in and do jobs several times each day at a minimum, and I don't think I had location services off, though I'm not 100% sure on that one. I do generally keep them on, so they were probably on. Also, because of this, I can't be totally sure that I did not check into them with location services off, but again I doubt it. The ones that had dropped to 140 are slightly higher now, but they are pretty much still the same. It's probably good though because the Apple Store was my only really high pop business anyway, the rest were <600. Now it has encouraged get new high pop businesses... It was just so weird the way it struck all my businesses at the same time with the same lower pop stats. Thank you for the advice everybody! I will know what to try next time

I bought Apple Store San Francisco to have a at least one high pop business in my town, as i mostly own low pop businesses.. I noticed that my Apple Store San Fran's pop is now just +219 and tried to check everyday if the numbers will improve, but it isnt I noticed that the RHs arent franchising it too because of its low pop (that i might not get the full 50 bucks reward out of it still, even if they franchise it) ... Question is - will i get the full 50 bucks when the RHs and other towners francise my Apple Store San Fran, even when they see it having a low pop?

Apple Store San Francisco from MY view in MY town has popularity in the 2,931,471. Is that what you are seeing? Or are you asking Bonus income stats ? I see +571% at Level 2 for mine, which should increase if I complete more jobs.
To your question, to get max $50 bucks per franchise - assuming the rough percentage of 15%, mayors have to franchise your business around the 330 bucks level to give you the MAX 50 bucks.
After that, RHs will not get the best bang for their bucks - pun intended.

I got curious after reading all this, so I checked my stats. They're the same as they've always been - you know, with the regular fluctuations. I don't have any really high pop businesses, nothing over about 90K, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I don't even know if I have location services turned off or on. I don't location switch, so I've never bothered with it. It's the same as it was when I started playing the game and, since I can't remember what I did five minutees ago, I have absolutely no idea what it was originally set at. Big help, huh?

Im not asking about the bonus income stat of the business, just the business popularity of a specific business, Apple Store San Fran in my case... When i visited your town, your Apple Store San Fran's popularity is 33180 not 2,931,471. Almost all of the towns i visited have the same stats (around 33k plus).. But mine's down to 219 only (like hollisterville's case). Why is this so?
