I have really noticed dramatic changes in the popularity of businesses lately. The Mixer Bar was really shocking as it has almost bottomed out in popularity.
Here are some of the most popular businesses as of today. These are not in any particular order
Domino's Pizza NY - 65,891 Apple Store SF - 35,545 Mixer Bar Paris - 8,366 I have seen it as low as 6,334 Yankee Stadium NY - 41,257 Disneyland Anaheim CA - 12,842 New York Times NY - 41,251 Openair Kino Spanau Berlin - 56,590 Four Seasons Hotel NY - 34,866 Modern Dance Studio NY - 17,454 Fireworks Pizza Company Los Angels CA - 28,808 Railhead Bar NJ - 51,513 Ritz Hotel London - 37,776 Google Mountain View CA - 20,433 Banana Republic Beverly Hills CA - 21,362 La Cucina Gourmet NY - 14,508 Burger King NY - 13,643 Begins Cafe Los Angeles CA - 67,296 Starbucks NY - 41,414 Long Island Beef Co NY - 33,258 Super Fashions NY - 18,359 Bonfini Pastabar Berlin - 6,303 Luzzi Trattoria Pizzeria Rome - 62,098 Folk Look Restaurant SF - 43,755 Saks Fifth Avenue NY - 30,518 Nintendo World NY - 41,871 Saturn_Markt Alexanderplatz Berlin - 45,162 Sushirrito SF - 67,121 Quick Paris - 26,150 Beverly Hills Hotel CA - 21,015 Bazar de l'Hotel de ville Paris - 20,235 Apple Computer Cupertino CA - 24,474 33-35 Hong Kong? - 22,781 Universal Studios Hollywood Universal City CA - 21,505 Facebook Palo Alto CA - 25,049 Bistrot Marguerite Paris - 39,867

Thanks Chilli, BIZARRE! That's all I can say. The Top 30 all seem to be making marginal movement up or down except these three notables: Bonfini Pastabar Berlin 89842 6871 Mixer Bar Paris 85150 8949 Quick Paris 8000 26999 What's interesting is that Quick just went through a similar crash two days ago and is already back up to 27,000. The two crashes today are quickly moving back up. It's almost like when a business hits a certain level (appx. 80000-90000) it resets its popularity to 6000-8000. ??

Hi, last week I had franchised a buisiness called Sushirrito, which was stated with 67.333. This morning I couldn`t believe my eyes, but the stats was now only 2424. Can anybody please tell me what has happened with this franchise ? Can this happen again to all my other businesses, because I only have franchised them, I dont have built one on my own. Oh, and sorry for my bad english and many greetings from germany

DATELINE: March 9th - a My Town 2 near you:
Like clockwork, today the Popularity Monster struck again. This time only one victim has been confirmed.
Railhead Bar, New York: From 50219 to 6500
Update on other recent victims:
Starbucks, New York: From 41,426 to 3,000 to 10,000 Sushirrito, San Fran: From 65,399 to 6,278 to 14,000 Mixer Bar, Paris: From 85,150 to 8,949 to 30,000
Bonfini Pastabar, Berlin: From 89,842 to 6,871 to 2,150 (PM came back for seconds on this bad boy)
Meanwhile, Quick looks to be making a full recovery at 51,734
a. Either PM is alive and well. b. Booyah is creating "buy low" opportunities. c. Like many other things, they actually don't know what they're doing, and we may never know the explanation.

Could you keep on posting when popularity drops? I cannot find any businesses due my location, but I'm holding out here in Beijing as I hope it will jump this way. Anyhow, I have the Forbidden City ( not Bijing location sadly ) and am excited how high it is in popularity - way higher than anything else I have, and it makes so much difference to my income. So I'd like to get another high popularity business when one dips, as that is the only way I will be able to afford one. Way I look at it, it's like playing the stock market for real, and everyone has so many stock exchanges it's quite ironic ;D

Has anyone written Booyah asking for an explanation on the huge variations in popularity? I wonder if they'd own up or even know what's going on..

A note I copied over from the chat thread:
Regarding popularity numbers not matching up and hitting a "low ceiling".
First off, we already know that there are two sets of Popularity figures: 1. The General Popularity number for a new Franchise and 2. An individual Town's business popularity.
After studying this for a couple of months, I am very certain that the "General" Popularity number of the business, at the time of purchase/franchise, will be "locked-in" as the "High" amount for that town. It will decrease when the "General" number decreases, but it will not increase above the purchase/franchise number.
So, I would say that buying/franchising HIGH is actually the better method in this case. You WILL be affected by dips, but your ceiling will be higher when the General popularity increases.
(There is an exception: Businesses that were purchased appx. 2 months ago, seem to have been locked-in at the higher numbers and are not affected by the rises or falls of the General popularity numbers. Example: my Nintendo World is locked at 134,000 and does not change.)

The Popularity Monster made it personal today. It struck the business I own. It was showing over 800 yesterday and today it is 91 I check in to it every day and built it from a popularity of 0 up to what it was yesterday until it came crashing down today for no reason.

Especially if Pablo Francisco does the opening credits in that creepy, deep voice...."In the city, you must fight to survive....The POPULARITY MONSTER!" Schwarznegger is yelling in the background "RRRRRUN! GET IN THA CHOPPA'!" hahha

I got hit local yesterday on four businesses I started the game with. Had built them up to 2000, then yesterday all 4 are back to 300-350. One that is literally right next door is still in the 2000 range. Doesn't make any sense.

Begins Café Catering - 7,0010 to 7,983
Meanwhile, our past victims are recovering nicely. Mixer Bar and Quick have reclaimed the #1 and #2 slots.

Note to PM: That which doesn't kill us only makes us stronger!
PS: BB and Turkishville - LOL. That would be awesome! ;D

THE POPULARITY MONSTER IS RUNNING RAMPANT!
Since the update, PM has struck across the boards. There is a general lowering of Population values on almost all businesses.
As of this writing, there are only 10 business with a general popularity of over 30K!!! Before the update, there were over 20 with a 30K+ popularity value.

I found a business in Paris yesterday called Creperie O'regal Valengaux which I have not seen mentioned anywhere. My popularity shows at 59227 for that business. Took me ages to find someone I could franchise from as few people seem to own it. So I cannot understand the popularity figure?

Ugh!!! One of mine went from 29,000 (in that range) down to 2800, and one went from 3400 down to 39....39!!! wtf...I don't get it, will it go back up? I've heard about it to franchise but I thought the popularity you franchised at was locked it. I don't like this one bit!

I'm completely at a loss on understanding popularity. I own Creperie O'Regal outright. My stats show its popularity is 35,802, and it is at level 10. While visiting your town, the stats show 67,873, and it is at level 4.
