I have turned my first business I purchased into a level 10, and even though it still has a low popularity rating, I am not selling it. I spent hours of "Blitzing" and am not selling it away ;D

Not sure I really understand your poll.
Way, way.........way back I bought businesses I wanted from the Booyah store. I either purchased it for coins or bucks. I didn't know about franchising then. Leveled them all up to 10- which took forever and a day, but this was going on as I cleared my land. Then I realized you can franchise other businesses from your neighbors, so I would visit other towns and buy the business from them. Some were for coins and some where for bucks.
Not sure what you mean by "truly" earned or what difference it makes if you purchased the business for bucks or not?

Are you talking about actually doing the jobs to level up and not paying to upgrade it?
The way the gifts can be allocated to a town and not a specific businesses, it's worth getting a business to level 10, even if you have to pay for it. You'll get the bucks back, so it's worth it.

Most of my businesses that I had while I was clearing my land I got to level 10 by lots of tapping. I did have 1 accidental upgrade pre-getaways that I did when I wasn't in a position to reverse it. Recently had a sell off of some of my businesses and sacrificed some of my level 10s.
Added some new businesses to replace those level 10s and I did pay to upgrade a few of those. Not all of them though. I'm still tapping to level up - I love the feeling of getting close to a new level then blitzing to hit it.

Earned most of them doing 3 minute taps for hours while traveling or bored in front of TV

I have never paid to upgrade a business, unless it was by accident. Like others, I just tap away while watching TV, or in the car.

Only got 2 of my businesses in level 10 without using bucks then got replaced by high pop businesses.
