We now enter Phase II of this game, which is occurring due to popular demand from the players. Phase I is over. Anybody not familiar with this game is encouraged to visit the previous thread: www.mytown2.net/index.cgi?action=display&board=monthly&thread=486&page=1The goal of Phase II is to complete the mission set out in Phase I, namely to raise the previously unknown low popularity property of New York New York Hotel & Casino all the way to #1! It started out at just 524 popularity, and mainly due to my own jobs and check-ins. It now sits at 80k popularity thanks to the efforts of this community! As of now, here is where we stand in terms of popularity in the top 5: 1. Quick (Paris) - 121,740 2. New York New York Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas) - 80,2673. Creperie O'Regal Valengaux (Paris) - 72,858 4. Old Mandarin Islamic Restaurant (San Francisco) - 46,549 5. Johnson Burger (Los Angeles) - 39,702 RULES: 1) This game begins Wednesday, 12am on 05/30/12 and ends Wednesday, 12am on 06/06/12. 2) All participants must franchise NY NY Hotel & Casino from either BBFranchiseNYNY (ID #33760646) or Sherwood Forrest (ID #29715565). For both towns, NY NY will be located at the top of the screen. Just franchise, delete, re-franchise, delete. Each time you do this, you raise the popularity of the property +20. For those without a lot of coins or bucks, you can in the alternative do check-ins if you own the property already (+1 popularity), but it's not gonna make much of a dent and I can't give out buck franchises for it. 3) All participants will get 2 franchises per day regardless of how many times they franchise and re-franchise NY NY, as long as they franchise at least twice. The next phase of the experiment will therefore test whether decreased incentives for participants significantly affect the rising popularity of the property. 4) ALL participants in Phase will get +5 bonus franchises if we manage to beat Quick by the end of the week, to be awarded at the end of that week. 5) Anybody who joined Phase I and wishes to drop out of Phase II may do so. All previously owed prizes will still be awarded, however, the bonus for keeping NY NY at the end and raising it up to Level 5 will be postponed until the end of Phase II. That's it. Every night at 11:59pm EST there will be an update on how we are doing, with daily observations of where we are in relation to our competitors. All previously owed prizes from Phase I will be listed and dealt with in the previous thread. LET THE GAME CONTINUE!

I'm sorry if I missed anyone today with the franchises. Work has been crazy and I did manage to list everyone who franchised my NY NY and I sent it to BB. I will try to franchise everyone as soon as I am able. Work has been crazy today and I am going away for a day trip tomorow and there will be limited cell and wifi reception. I will certainly keep tabs on who is franchising and I will do my best to franchise all of you. Please if you feel I have missed you send me a PM and I will gladly send a couple of franchises your way. Also Russelville I sent you a PM and I will certainly do my best to recovery your bucks for you.
I guess that's it for now. I hope everyone has a good night and a great day tomorrow.

Update as of 11:59pm EST:
NY NY at 70,585 popularity.
As of now, here is where we stand in terms of popularity in the top 5:
1. Quick (Paris) - 123,722 2. Creperie O'Regal Valengaux (Paris) - 72,733 3. New York New York Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas) - 70,585 4. Old Mandarin Islamic Restaurant (San Francisco) - 46,925 5. Johnson Burger (Los Angeles) - 39,961
Big beating today as we lost nearly 10k popularity, marking our first day of taking a loss rather than making any gain. Trying hard not to be discouraged but that's quite a downturn. Can we successfully rebound? We seem to keep coming neck and neck with the Creperie but although Quick is making much smaller gains than before, it's a definite struggle to get close to #1.
Do your best, guys. To the newcomers and the veterans alike, try to go for 100+ franchises a day. We may just end this one early with more days like today.
Ever since we hit 60k, the dropoffs have been extreme, something like 6-8 popularity every 45 seconds.
I wonder if the others are less affected simply because they exist in so many towns whereas NY NY is in considerably fewer towns.
Will update again tomorrow.

I wonder if the others are less affected simply because they exist in so many towns whereas NY NY is in considerably fewer towns. I think that's exactly it. Boosting the pop as much as possible is obviously the way to go, but when it stops, stabilizing it's pop will probably be another challenge altogether... Perhaps an even tougher challenge, who knows...

Boosting the pop as much as possible is obviously the way to go, but when it stops, stabilizing it's pop will probably be another challenge altogether... Perhaps an even tougher challenge, who knows... One of the characteristics of the top two is over 1 million check-ins, which can be a function of how many towns. However that value will also be a function of how long they are kept and also a function of revenue which motivates jobs and retention. Compare with NYNY at 7,289. The next 8 biz I have below NYNY are in similar pop range from 20-30k. The check-ins for 7 are between 180k and 367k with mixer being an outlier @ 606k. The ones in the 10-20k range look like they follow a pattern similar but this is subjective. Not enough observations to understand the outliers. You have to wonder if the number of check-ins or jobs is dragging down the pop value significantly over 24 hours. Obviously, it will take a lot of work to raise 7k to 700k. And then I suspect they are erased when you sell. It looks like number of purchases has a lot to do with present value. However, either the number of existing franchises, or check-ins or jobs/levels or all three has a lot to do with some other value(s) factored in the baseline, which seems to be updated more often than 1/day. I am not in the same 1% as some of the other participants so I am trying to make up my smaller number of purchases by racking up jobs/levels. If they have a bit of longevity, at least it still helps.

Those are all great observations. It definitely appears that re-franchising gives a quick popularity boost. But, I think you're right that checkins and jobs will give a solid foundation for future high popularity figures.
But no business is safe from the Popularity Monster. Quick got nailed today - at about 4K right now. The bright side is that NY NY is #2, but it is losing popularity fast - down to 65K. Creperie is holding the #1 spot at 73K.
Crazy game, this popularity game is.

Crazy game, this popularity game is. I looked through the top 50 thread and picked up the data today and from the first list in a spreadsheet. Did you keep the last list? I may have it printed somewhere. Quick crashed twice the first half of March and recovered. Several others did the same, although not so drastic. And some apparently never recovered. Maybe because their pop was due to a hack. Anyway, the good news is Quick and others recovered. The bad news is not everything seems to have recovered. And the common element is an app store upgrade. Fascinating, Captain. I could be a lot more systematic with my notes, but my "research" is pretty much limited to vacation, and I won't have another one of these for a few months.

Small update for all of us.
So it's 3pm EST at the moment.
Popularity for NY NY is sitting at 64.7k.
As you guys most likely already know, Quick was hit by the popularity monster today and is currently around 7.3k. They are no longer a threat for the time being and will be stricken from the top 5 list by tonight.
That leaves only 1 property above us, and it's one we've beaten time and time again over the past few days...
Creperie O'Regal Valengaux - 74.7k
We are therefore only 10k away from reaching 1st place!!!
Participation has lagged big time for past 2 days but I am asking everybody to put forth your best foot. If just 10 people do 100 franchises, we will gain the 10k...of course there will be dropoff too, but I know more than 10 people are reading this.
Let's make all the hard work we've been doing count.
TONIGHT WE TAKE 1ST!!!

I will continue to do what I can, coins becoming limited. Hudson25 37047475 I am in the same boot. When you switch locations you lose any coin income progress and even if I leave it, still using tons and not given a chance to build back up. I am good for about a week, then I would need a week to gain income and could go back to this. 720K plus for each franchise is a killer. Trying to do as many check-ins as I can. Thanks

We're done this week no matter what. This second week was intended to give a chance to complete the ultimate goal, give NY NY additional exposure, and recruit a few people who weren't on board the first time around.
It's definitely getting a lot harder to maintain and I truly appreciate everything people are doing.

Yes, I keep all my spreadsheet data when I do my periodic updates. I've definitely documented most of the huge crashes, and Quick has been involved at least 3 other times. I have a bunch of theories on why they don't recover, but maybe we'll add it to another thread... another day.

Update as of 11:59pm EST:
NY NY at 64,061 popularity.
As of now, here is where we stand in terms of popularity in the top 5:
1. Creperie O'Regal Valengaux (Paris) - 75,384 2. New York New York Hotel & Casino (Las Vegas) - 64,061 3. Old Mandarin Islamic Restaurant (San Francisco) - 49,036 4. Johnson Burger (Los Angeles) - 40,923 5. Bonfini Pastabar (Berlin) - 35,026
We're down about 6k popularity from last night. Quick was raped by the popularity monster and is off the list but quickly moving upward and now at 12k. We remain 11k out of 1st place but without some serious participation we'll be fighting an uphill battle to climb upwards. We have passed Creperie at least 3 times and I know we can do it again.
Tomorrow is another day.

My coin stash is also getting low. I may be able to do a few this week, but I'm going to be limited.
I hope the masses start to franchise it so it has a larger base of owners/checkins.

BB where is your NYNY? It is not showing up in your town! Yes- BB you are still missing. Just went to sherwood. BTW- I don't understand the Quick pop thing. This is worse than the stockmarket. How can it drop so low so fast. (Not really looking for an explanation, but seems like something is really fishy here!)

I am not seeing the midnight update. Last night mine was at about 61k and this am, it is 60k at BB. Solidly in 2nd place but creperie is at 77k. Maybe we need to do some marketing at booyah's Facebook page, like "my quick hit the basement floor but I found nyny in Vegas to replace it!"
