I figured since we all seem to have the same questions, I'd start a thread for this game.
I think the biggest question has to do with gifts. I think I've been giving them, but I really have no idea. Also, how can we get gold without having to buy it? Can we find it in the game or do we have to do the Tapjoy things?
Judy, I think we're going to all be looking to you for advice on this game. It is definitely one that I could get hooked on.

Thank you Leilani for starting this thread, now all we need is Super Judy to jump in! If anyone else has a handle on this game please jump in also. Thank you all for the helping hands, still not sure how to do that one or how to choose gifts to send to everyone.

Thanks for starting this thread, Leilani.
I don't have a lot of experience in sending gifts, since I've had real friends for a couple of days! It appears we can send a free one once every 24 hours. I've sent green paint and bolts, as I seem to need these in the lab.
When visiting a farm, you can harvest a ripe crop or chop trees or stones. After awhile, you will get goals asking you to do this.
The game "person", Nicolas Smith, regenerates every time you leave and come back. You can find a few trees and a rock pile down the road to the lower left.
I spend gold to get extra energy for friends. I've enjoyed hopping around your farms. I also get wood, food, and money when I work at your farms.
Edit: I tried to give everyone a gift that cost gold today, a Crane in a Pond, but the game said I couldn't because it was a holiday. I'll try tomorrow. This gift should add to your "comfort" points. You'll find the comfort level has to go up to do some of the tasks.

Energy
No, I don't wait for the game to replenish when I am playing seriously. I try to get my food count over 100, so I can trade for 40 energy units. Otherwise, I spend 10 gold to get energy replenished. I let the game ask me if I want to add energy.
I have found it necessary to rebuild forests and rock piles from the "Fertilizers" menu in the store. This gives wood and other materials you need as you get into making things in the lab.
My favorite real fertilizer is the 100 count Synthetic on page 3 of the menu. I was using this for almost every crop except strawberries until today when I've started to let some ripen by themselves.

That count that goes up when chopping trees:
If you manage to get through level 7, you get a prize. It takes a full forest plus some rocks to have enough to keep going, so you will need an expansion area before you can plant all the trees. I think there is some kind of bonus when you reach the end of each level, but I didn't pay attention when it was explained, and I can't seem to notice when it happens.
Monsters:
There are 4. Each has a preferred weapon. You are already experiencing the wolf. The weapon is the free slingshot. Next is the Yeti that takes the Bee Gun. You can make this in your workshop or buy it in the store.
The 3rd monster is the Monster Tree. The sound is a crow cawing. The weapon is the Gas Nebulizer. The 4th is a weird alien. Weapon is Nanoemitter. All can be bought or created in the Workshop.

Annoying aspects:
When buying and placing a baby animal, you can move only the animal, which is barely visible. The check or cancel follows too closely IMHO.
The Edit Mode is entered through the green crossed arrows at the lower right. It took me a day to find this. Edit mode lets you move, store or sell things.
When trying to get to level 7 of activity to get a prize, the monsters show up. If I pick the wrong weapon by missing with my finger, I usually drop back to level 1.
Gold Mine: Big waste of gold. Costs 250 and generates only 1 per day!

Buildings:
The ones for animals are available by the time you need them. I was spending gold for the larger unit, but I find that I usually only want about 5 of a given animal. When it was time for the Sheep Fold, I chose the smaller building which costs game dollars.

Wood:
Let it accumulate. When you expand to areas 2 and 3, you will be building a bridge which takes a lot of wood. Also, when you buy a building, you will use wood to assemble it.

Laboratory:
This is the most challenging area to manage as the game progresses. I did buy a second Lab as soon as I could get enough game dollars. Two items that are needed a lot are Powder and Glue. You will use the Lab to make hybrid seeds. Hybrid crops can be sold for good profit. The strange looking animals are also created in the Lab.
Workshop: I mostly make weapons here.
Decor: I've made 3 of the donkey flower carts that add to my comfort points
Research: This is where you level up the lab tasks by completing studies.

Segway:
When the game makes this available, you attach it to your character in Edit Mode. It speeds up movement from area to area. I do not have access to the faster modes yet.

Thanks for the info Judy.
The biggest problem I have with the game is that it really isn't designed to be played on an iPhone. I'm sure if I had an iPad it would be easier, but on the phone everything is so small. I accidentally spent gold on something yesterday because the letters are so small I can't read what I'm clicking on and I thought I was clicking on the button to do something else. I've tried zooming in like we can do in the other games, but it doesn't really zoom in.

Specsavers??? Lol I've got it on both, have to have my glasses on to use my phone! But you don't get the actual times on the bars like you do on the iPad to know how long something is going to be. Thanks for the breakdown Leilani, yes I wanted to know if it was cost effect to buy more at once, the timings don't bother me so much but I want more for less lol. Thanks for the info Judy. Lol Jaye, I think the wanting the biggest bang for the buck thing applies to all of us. Specsavers? Are those like the reading glasses you can buy in the drug store? I got Lasik several years ago and I haven't needed glasses to look at anything until this game. Although I should probably lay off the phone games a bit because I'm sure they're accelerating the time it is going to take until I need reading glasses for real.

Thx for starting this thread Leilani and thx for the much needed info, Judy! It's good to know some of u guys are adventurous enough to try something new and different This game is starting to grow on me. The only thing I don't like is having to wait for my energy to restore. How long does it take to get it fully restored from zero? I was wondering why Judy had a Segway when she was giving me a helping hand. Now I know why...I want one! ;D I'm still figuring out the little nuances of the game..like the lab and gifting features like bolts, nails, paint? I'm just chopping trees and clearing land at the moment. Don't laugh but I thought Nicolas Smith was one of my friends from GC ;D

Lol Kech. Oh wait, you said not to laugh, sorry. Ok so does anyone know how I feed this darn cat? I have cream in my warehouse, but it won't let me use it. So I asked for some, got it (thanks Judy) and it won't let me use it. The only way it seems I can feed that cat is to spend gold on cream to do it. It says I have 3 of 10, do I have to get to 10 before I can use it? I need to know. My cat is looking sad and won't help me.

The cat that acts like a dog is a pain. 10 portions of sour cream a day. We can gift it if asked. There is at least one collection that earns it. Sometimes when I'm in the Lab, I hear a noise and think something is wrong. Turns out to be the cat running to help my farmer. I suspect he costs more than he is worth. Sometimes I leave him on the sideline waiting to be fed.
Edit: He does help with scoring and gives more energy when replenishing for 10 gold. I guess I'll have to ask for sour cream more often.

Leilani, Don't hesitate to sell your winged horse. You'll get a nice bundle of cash. I'll send another soon. Judy

I thought the Specsavers might go over your head Leilani lol. It must just be a British company, they are an Optician or opthamologist as you call them and sell glasses and lenses etc. They often have designer glasses 2-4-1 which is why I love them and have about 10 pairs lol . I wear glasses, and have readers. The adds are great, centred around people who need glasses but don't have them. There's a couple drive onto an air craft carrier thinking its a ferry lol. The catch phrase is... 'should have gone to Specsavers'.

Lol Jaye. They sound like a company here called For Eyes Optical. I haven't seen one of their ads in a while, but they had one where the older woman is trying on glasses, looking at an attractive young man, when she takes them off she realizes it's her husband, so she puts them back on and he's the young man again. Are you sure Judy? It impolite to sell a gift. Plus he's cute.

Yes, Leilani. I sent you a new one, so you can sell the first one.
One thing I like a lot about this game is that you can get extra energy to help neighbors. Turns out to be cheaper than buying energy for your own farm. And, you earn while helping. Seems like a win-win!
