OK, I received 1 Buck on all of them.
Popularity that I show for each is:
Lenny's: 34 Need For Speed: 0 Harbortown: 24
Interestingly enough, the public popularities of the businesses this morning are as follows:
Lenny's: 108 (18 Bucks to Franchise) Need For Speed: 57 (10 Bucks to Franchise) Harbortown: 61 (10 Bucks to Franchise)

I'm still able to franchise at 1 to 2 bucks at those popularities.

WEIRD! More inconsistencies.
I'm still showing the higher Franchise costs.
And I only franchised them once before - same as you, right?
Can you PM me with your Buck and coin totals, your Level and how many businesses you have?

Still showing:
Harbor town 79 - $1 Need for Speed 75 - $1 Lenny - 104 - $2
I'll pm my stats shortly.
Edit: I am currently in SE Georgia. I turned off location services and checked from San Francisco and the price was:
$10 $9 $15
In the same order with same popularity as above.
Maybe distance is a factor?

Yes it does. When I switched back to GA the price dropped down again. Tomorrow I'm heading home from vacation. I'll check about every hour or so as I head back to wash dc.

Thanks Sol. It looks like the same commission 15+% percentage holds true at the lower ends above $1. So franchising somebody at $9 or $1 nets them the same $1 so you might as well franchise the cheapest ones if you are franchising with limited bucks.
Here is what I've found from my trip this weekend regarding distance vs price for franchise:
It seems that a franchise costs coins up to about 195 miles. Harbortown cost me $1 (pop 79) in Georgia and I was about 200 miles from the business. North of Savannah it was still at 73 pop and cost $3 - I was about 300 miles away. Somewhere near the 400 mile mark it went up to $4. I checked it at 550 miles and it was still at $4. I didn't check again until 700 miles and it was up to $5 despite a slight drop in popularity from 73 to 66. At my house it also costs $5 which is about 825 miles. It costs $11 when I check in with location services off based in San Francisco which is close to 2400 miles. The popularity stayed consistent through last night. Today it did go down slightly72 down to 66. I checked Lenny's Restaurant though and it's popularity is 81 today and costs $6 from home so there is a price change somewhere between 66 and 81 popularity but it didn't significantly change the results. The price does go up the farther away you go.
I just did another check. Pekman's town has a Burger King based in NYC with 3,283 popluarity. My cost is $33 at home which is about 200 miles. When I switch to San Francisco the price jumps to $400. So there does seem to be a direct link between distance to a business and the price.

To make things easier for the RH (major franchiser $50 buckaroos) and the micro-franchiser ($1-$10) to pay forward and run out of the daily 5 gifts, it will be good if you put a couple of Level 10 business at the top corner along with a couple of Level 1 business (don't upgrade them). In that way, you will get the benefits of both type of RHs.
Just a thought as it takes RHs/micro-franchiser time to find the biz in your town.

I was lucky to find this forum and use the tips for changing location ,because I couldn't afford any of those businneses. I've got many coins but I am very low on bucks.I bought my wonders and houses (bucks items) with the help of CANDY LAND and FREE FOR ALL who franchised some of my businesses. Because I want to help others with coins it is possible to franchise the same business more than once? I mean : I franchise a business once, when it's still constructing delete it and than I franchise the same business again but after a short period of time like 1-2 hours. If somebody know or can try please let me know. I do it many time it shows me that the coins are spent but I don't know if it works, if the other town get the coins. Thanks

That's a good idea... except I think, it's not a level 1 business that you need for the micro-franchiser --- but a business with lower popularity. A popular business, like French Laundry, for example will cost a bunch of bucks, regardless of the level it's at. Cmeister: That's some awesome research! And... sounds like an awesome trip, as well. Hope you had fun! Exalted! Thanks Moose. Yes it was a great trip and the kids had a lot of fun. My wife really thinks I'm crazy though checking my town every hundred miles or so and writing down the prices of franchises. I had to make her drive for a while so I could play Sols game. And to think I used to make fun of her Farmville obsession

I franchised an Apple Store today in Boston, MA at 691 pop
My location was set to Cupertino, Ca (2,688mi straight line) it cost 86 bucks.
Changed location to New York, NY (190mi straight line) cost 6 bucks.
Distance significantly affected the price.

190 miles is right around the cut off for bucks vs coins.
