When I started in this forum last spring, I was struggling to regain my balance after my grandson's suicide, my daughter's efforts to cope as she needed to complete her nurses training, my dog's severe aging problems, and my friend's brain cancer.
At this writing, I have much to be thankful for. My daughter did complete her training and graduated at the top of her class. She is working 3 12-hour night shifts a week at a hospital here. She has cemented her relationship with a man she has dated for a year and will marry on December 15.
Though I miss my grandson, thoughts of him no longer feel as painful. I am able to remember positives he brought into my life.
My dog is plodding along, sleeping most of the time, but being her true self when we go for walks or have a meal.
My friend with brain cancer passed away after several difficult months. I was able to assist her and the family, as she lived in the same apartment complex as I.
Instead of spending money on mental health counselors, I have chosen to invest in games and this forum. The friendships I have made here, and the expansion into new games, have added much pleasure to my life. I am thankful to and for you all. A special hug for the Robin Hoods who have made so much possible in MT2.

Judy - it's great having you on the forum. It's sad losing a loved one and to lose a dear friend just adds to the pain. It sounds like your daughter is bringing you joy and her successes are something you should be proud of.

Just, thank you for highlighting what we all have to be thankful for, and it sounds like, despite a hard year, you have a lot to be proud of

Thanks Sni and NewZ. Yes, I have a lot to be proud of. Last year at this time, I couldn't bring myself to write a Christmas letter due to my grandson's increasing suicide attempts. He was diagnosed as bipolar and had got into drugs. He also had Asperger's Syndrome and was gifted in his ability to remember sports statistics. He was a big Alabama fan and the last time I saw him, he was rejoicing over Alabama's win in the BCS bowl game. My daughter had him and his roommates plus me over to watch the game.
I forgot to mention that my other daughter had aggressive breast cancer diagnosed the same month Jason died. She has recovered from her treatments and is back to work in Tennessee. I am thankful for Skype, as I'm not up to traveling these days.
Another plus in my life is my new electric fireplace. Makes my apartment feel like a real home!
