That's fantastic news Mike. Hopefully the crew in Yaneya's neighborhood gets her home powered back up soon.

Ok so now in the aftermath - my biggest concern is - are the food truckers getting thru ? I haven't seen anything in the news re this?
And what is an effective agency to donate to? Is Salvation Army an effective organization in the states?

Mike, so glad to hear your power is restored!
One of my regular daily gifts goes to someone in Brooklyn (I think that's where they are). We've been exchanging a green buck every day for almost as long as I've been playing this game. So, even though I don't know him/her at all, I was worried about them during that storm. Their daily gift came every day though, so I'm hoping that this means they did not suffer any great damage from the hurricane. But isn't it weird how you can feel a connection to someone you do not know at all, just through this game?!!

The info below is for folks in the US, there is a notation on their donation page asking donors from outside the US to contact their local Red Cross to make a donation. www.redcross.org/charitable-donationsTo donate $10 via text message text REDCROSS to 90999

I just wanted to give this thread a bump and remind people that there is still a lot of work ahead of them in New York and New Jersey. Many people, including some of our own members, are still without electricity. Their weather is pretty much the same as our weather and we've been waking up to temps in the 30s and are currently experiencing another nor'easter. My husband just got a request from a co-worker who is collecting supplies and the list of things they're looking for was a reminder of how much was lost: things like sheets, blankets, diapers, shoes and other every day things that we don't even think twice about because we have them.

Also the red cross is set up well online for donations - Canadians have to use the .ca site and there is a specific hurricane sandy fund -

Thanks Leilani
I get daily updates from my family that still live on Long Island and New Jersey. Although everyone is okay (thank goodness), the recovery processs is slow. Some are still without power. The gasoline situation is still bad since only a few gas stations open randomly and hundreds of cars line up for hours and are never guartanteed there will be enough by the time they get to the head of the line. The schools are still closed. Some of my family are still displaced, however they are staying with other family members.
An email I received yesterday ended (From their own words)- " We are slowly recovering." The task of cleanup is daunting and devastation is everywhere. We are lucky to be safe and warm.
Even in situations like this, we have a lot to be thankful for.
