As you guys may have noticed, this board has a karma system. Karma is a representation of how well liked you are / how "good" a member you are.
The system is represented by a number just below everybody's name and avatar, with options to "exalt" or "smite." Exalting raises karma +1; smiting reduces it -1.
Generally, if somebody does/says something to help you or just says something you like, you should "exalt" them. Similarly, if they do something to piss you off or offend you, or prove unhelpful, you should "smite" them. You don't have to, of course, but the option is there.
What does this all mean ultimately? Well, not much, except that it's something to have fun with and another way to show your appreciation for others. And here on the forum, we'll be making those numbers a little more meaningful as time goes on.
What else should you know about karma?
1. It resets every hour, so once you exalt or smite somebody, you have to wait a full 60 minutes before you can do it again. You can only exalt or smite one person every hour, and you can't ever do it to yourself.
2. It's a bit wonky. The option might vanish and you may have to log in / log out to see it come back again. The number never disappears, only the exalt / smite option.
Enjoy exalting and smiting!

Wonder why the karma option is not available when using the ProBoards app. I bought the app because I can upload screenshots and pictures from my iPhone directly; but without the karma system means I'll have to go back to safari if I want to exalt someone...weird...thanks BB for explaining!

I don't use the ProBoards app...I know Solsville is big on it. Strange that the karma system does not work on it. I'll have to investigate. A few things to add about getting karma: 1. Obviously we all know users can exalt you every hour for 1 karma point. 2. You can also earn karma through participating in community events, with bonuses for doing well in those events, where applicable. We'll always post what the points you can earn are and when they will be credited. 3. Birthday bonus: +3 to your karma on your birthday That's all we have so far. Right now the only way to lose karma is through smiting.

Can somebody please explain the karma system to me. If I exalt someone, how long do I have to wait to exalt another person?

Can somebody please explain the karma system to me. If I exalt someone, how long do I have to wait to exalt another person? Because I'm not an admin, there's a thread for it under administrative news--->Karma System. Because I'm not an admin, in layman's terms: you have 1 exalt or smite per hour you can give someone. And if you accidentally smite someone, you should be caned. Ok, that's harsh-but you should feel really bad about it and make up for it with a weekend of exalts.

I can't take the torture, Pekman---I'm sorry again!! ...the guilt I have for smiting not just someone, but Pekman...Pekman! by accident is too much for me to handle. Why'd you have to rub it in again?! I'm sure whoever smited you YG is feeling just as bad

If you exalt/smite someone, is there a way of finding out who did it?

Starryeyed - there really is no way to tell if someone exalts/smites you. (Actually if you and only one other member is online and your karma goes up or down - that would be the only way). I'm an Admin and I wouldn't really be able to tell who affects another's karma. Snibull - I know you've been tortured over the accidental smitification of Pekman - so I have gone in and corrected this, by giving him a free exalt. Your conscious is clear!

If your karma drops does that mean you have been smited? Mine has gone down one point

If your karma drops does that mean you have been smited? Mine has gone down one point Hi Sardi - yes, a smite will bring down your count but it could've been by accident. I'll bring you up +1. Sni
