About a month ago I included an emotion icon in my Town Name and after about a day, I realized none of my franchises were going through. Yes, sure, when we franchise someone, actually we send bunch of codes which look is similarly to (let's assume) "neighborhood_franchise":townname as the example, and when we send it to someone whose their townname has icon that also actually has an unique code which is same as the code of the game processing system system like { } [ ] * / - : ( ), so of course the system couldnt read the franchise code, eventually the franchise is sent but get lost in the middle of its way.

Say you want to use an icon, how do you? Switch to the Emoji keyboard. Adding keyboards is under your Settings/General/Keyboards-International. Once you've added it to the list of usable keyboards, tap and hold the globe key when typing to bring up your list, then switch to Emoji. Then have at! 💩 |

It also impacts the gifts you send to other players. They won't receive them.

However, I'd franchise someone even if they used emoticons, because I don't really do it for franchises/gifts in return, especially from someone who's just starting out. I use franchises as a gift, or as a "Hello", to let people know I visited. No reciprocation required. =) Expecting them to return the favor would kind of negate the whole act of RH'ing, if they spent all the bucks I gave them franchising my town right back, lol...

I agree when you franchise someone, no one is expecting a franchise or gift in return. It does defeat the purpose for someone to spend the time to franchise someone else, just to have them use the bucks to franchise you right back.
The point of this thread is let people know that if they put the emoticons in their town name, you will not be able to franchise or gift someone else, however you still will be able to receive gifts and franchises.
We are a community and we are here to help and support each other. Even if you are not a RH or a micro-RH, you have the ability to help others, or as we say, to pay it forward. It can be as simple as giving a gift or franchising someone’s lowest businesses, to help or just show appreciation. That is why there are threads like Random Act of Kindness, Birthday Club and Mayor Appreciation, just to name a few.
Everyone has the right to play this game as they see fit, however in my opinion, if you are a member of this forum and have seen this thread and still choose to add the icons to your town name, what kind of message does that send to the other members? But it is your right and as Raven stated above, it is also the right of other mayors to choose not to franchise you.

Don't forget that there are a lot of players out there that aren't at our level that are trading daily gifts or franchise for franchise. And some of them are adding an icon b/c it looks pretty without even realizing by doing so their gifts and franchises they think they are sending to help folks are going absolutely nowhere.
I found out about the gifting thing because I ran into a husband and wife team that started playing so they could help each other out and the wife's gifts to her husband stopped when she added an icon.
Too bad the game doesn't have a personal messaging system so we can let players that we do see using them know what happens when they have one. In meantime, the best we can do is inform players that come to our community so they are aware of why we don't recommend it.
